Helping Keep The Golden Isles Beautiful

Keep Golden Isles Beautiful is a non-profit organization striving to help clean up the Golden Isles. They do clean ups every week on Jekyll, Brunswick, and St. Simons. If you’ve ever walked down to pier and realized there was no cigarette buds you can thank KGIB. But they were having a problem they were losing volunteers and not gaining new ones. Already stretched thin and overworking themselves they needed to find a solution to continue to help keep it safe and clean. They decided to reach out to Willow Jones a well-known product photographer living here in Brunswick. She has always loved volunteering and decided she would take photos pro bono. They started with going out and taking photos of the wildlife living in the Golden isles. Taking photos of dolphins, sea turtles, our many bird species, and more. But then she thought about what would help drive more volunteering and she decided to start taking photos of all the trash that has accumulated in different areas around the golden isles. But this wasn’t compelling enough for Willow she decided to also take photos of all the trash they accumulate from each trip when they go to clean up. Since KGIB has started using these photos on their social media and website they have seen a large uptick in volunteers and support. Most recently Willow created a video for KGIB about the harmful effects of cigarette butts on the environment. Click on the link here to view the video. Hope you enjoy!
